Four bandits have been killed by local vigilantes around Kakangi Forest in Birnin Gwari Area of Kaduna State.
The local vigilantes were said to have chased the bandits from a neighboring village in Niger State into the Kakangi area of Birnin Gwari LGA, where they killed the bandits who had kidnapped some villagers.
Daily Trust gathered that the bandits were actually killed in the Unguwar Ma’aji area, about five kilometers from Kakangi village.
The incident happened around 5:00 pm on Thursday when the bandits were ambushed by the local vigilantes who had been tracking them.
A resident of the area, who pleaded for anonymity, said the bandits came through Kamuku Forest near the Kasakaki area before they were ambushed by the vigilantes.
“Four of the notorious bandits and their kingpin (leader), Kachalla Rufai, Suleiman Alhaji Malam, Rufai, and Hairo, were killed after exchanging fire with Niger State local vigilantes who chased them from neighboring communities,” he said.
According to him, one other bandit was critically injured and left behind around Dogondawa Forest.
He also said the kidnapped victims were all rescued by the vigilantes and returned to their villages.
Contacted, Birnin Gwari-Niger Inter-Boundaries Communities Association Chairman Ishaq Usman Kasai confirmed the incident, saying the bandits had crossed into Niger communities to commit the crime when the vigilantes engaged them.
The State Police Command Public Relations Officer ASP Mansir Hassan couldn’t be reached on phone at the time of filling the report.
