The Kaduna State Police Command announced the arrest of a notorious kidnapper and the recovery of a firearm in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Thursday.
According to the police, the arrest occurred on the evening of December 25, 2024. Officers from the Saminaka Division, acting on credible intelligence and led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), apprehended Sule Muhammad, a 25-year-old resident of Kargi Village in Lere LGA.
ASP Mansir Hassan, the Police Command Public Relations Officer, disclosed in a statement that preliminary investigations revealed Muhammad’s involvement in multiple kidnapping incidents within the Saminaka area. During the operation, officers recovered a fabricated AK-47 rifle from the suspect.
“Muhammad confessed to being a member of a notorious kidnapping gang responsible for the abduction of a district head on August 14, 2024. The victim was released on August 16, 2024, and five gang members were arrested at that time. Muhammad managed to evade capture until his arrest on Christmas Day,” ASP Hassan explained.
In a related development, on December 26, 2024, the DPO of Makarfi led his patrol team to a location in the Marke Area along the Kano-Zaria Expressway, acting on credible intelligence regarding suspicious activity. Three vehicles suspected to be loaded with illegal substances were found parked and abandoned at the scene. The recovered vehicles include a grey-colored Golf car, a dark blue Golf car, and a red Ford minibus.
Upon conducting a thorough search, officers uncovered 58 blocks of Arizona (AZ) and 33 bags of substances suspected to be cannabis. The items and vehicles have been secured, and further investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspects involved in this illegal operation.
The Commissioner of Police commended the officers for their swift response and assured the public of the Command’s commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and related crimes in the state.
