NAHCON Chair… Professor Saleh Pakistan
By Ibrahim Abubakar, Nagarta
It has come to our attention, as concerned citizens dedicated to the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims, that a short, ambiguous, and controversial video clip circulating on social media has created confusion about the public hearing held on November 13th and 14th, 2024.
The hearing was organized by the House of Representatives’ investigative committee on the 2024 Hajj exercise.
The video, produced by an unnamed source, failed to clearly explain which individual—whether the former chairman of NAHCON or the current one—is under investigation.
We would like to make it clear to the public, and especially to those spreading misinformation, that Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman Pakistan the current NAHCON chairman, was not involved in any of the alleged improper dealings related to the 2024 Hajj exercise.
In fact, he was appointed as NAHCON chairman several months after the 2024 Hajj season had concluded.
Professor Usman’s appearance at the public hearing was solely due to his position as the incumbent chairman of the commission. He attended to observe the proceedings and understand the unfolding situation in order to prepare for the significant responsibilities ahead of him as the new chairman.
We, therefore, strongly urge those spreading false information to cease their campaigns of defamation against the National Hajj Commission chairman. Such actions undermine fairness, which is a core principle of responsible journalism.
