Suspected bandits have destroyed harvested maize on six farms in Kwaga village and Unguwar Zako, both located in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The attack, which took place on Sunday night, has left the local farmers and the community in shock. The victims, especially the farm owners, are devastated by the scale of the damage.
According to reports, the bandits stormed the farms and set fire to all the harvested maize, reducing it to ashes. A video obtained by Daily Trust shows the burnt remains of the farms, with the affected farmers seen consoling one another.
Among the affected farmers is Kabiru Halilu Kwaga, who had harvested over 160 bags of maize last year and was expecting a larger yield this year. Unfortunately, all his crops were destroyed in the attack. Similarly, Surajo Kwaga, who had harvested 40 bags of maize last year, and Malam Dan Gido, who had harvested 50 bags and was hoping for 65 this year, both lost their entire crops. Jibril Haladu Kwaga also saw his maize go up in flames.
In the wake of the attack, the farmers prayed for divine comfort to help them recover from their losses.
Ishaq Usman Kasai, Chairman of the Birnin Gwari-Niger Inter-boundaries Communities Association, confirmed that the bandits responsible were part of the group led by the notorious kingpin Yellow Jamboros, who has been terrorizing the region for some time.
As of now, neither the State Government nor the Police Command have issued an official statement on the incident. The State Police Command Public Relations Officer,
