The management of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi, has given relatives of 21 unclaimed corpses in its morgue a two-week ultimatum to come forward and claim them, after which the bodies will be disposed of.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by Esther Bature, the Head of Public Relations/Protocol, and shared with our correspondent in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Thursday.
Bature explained that the decision to set a deadline was prompted by the fact that some of the bodies have been in the morgue for over six months, surpassing the legal limit for storage.
“They now pose a potential health risk to the hospital and surrounding areas,” she said.
She urged the public, especially those with missing relatives, to visit the morgue for identification and collection of the bodies.
The two-week deadline began on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, and Bature stressed that if no one comes forward by the end of this period, the medical centre will have no choice but to dispose of the bodies.
