9,098 Kaduna Residents Benefit from Health Scheme Over Three Years

From December 2021 to September 2024, a total of 9,098 underprivileged individuals have received assistance from the Kaduna North Health Endowment Fund Scheme.

The scheme was established to provide primary healthcare support to those in need. Muktar Baloni, Chairman of the Kaduna North LGA, shared this information during the program’s conclusion, emphasizing its goal of ensuring affordable and accessible healthcare for local residents.

Nine health facilities were selected for the initiative: PHC Unguwar Sarki, PHC Unguwar Rimi, PHC Badarawa, PHC Unguwar Dosa, PHC Unguwar Shanu, PHC Kabala, PHC Unguwar Kanawa, Zakari Memorial PHC, and PHC Radin Guza.

Baloni highlighted the creation of a committee to enhance the initiative, which addressed health challenges in the targeted areas. Each of the nine committee members received an operational stipend of N25,000 throughout the program’s 26-month duration, contributing to a total expenditure of N24.412 million, which includes these stipends.

He stated, “In total, 9,098 patients benefited from this initiative. However, we faced challenges due to the lack of a legal framework for sustaining the health endowment fund and the absence of clear budget allocations. We financed the scheme using the council’s security votes.”

Baloni urged future leaders to continue the program to improve access to healthcare for the sick, advocating for the establishment of the Kaduna North Healthcare Endowment Act and other legislative measures to institutionalize the initiative.

He stressed the importance of proposed legislation to encourage private sector involvement, which would help secure additional resources.

As his tenure concludes this month, Baloni assured the community of his continued support.

Community leader Alhaji Usman Abba Ibrahim praised the outgoing chairman for launching the scheme, noting it as a pioneering effort in the state in decades. He called for its continuation under future leadership to ensure ongoing support for the vulnerable population.
