Flood Devastates Kaduna community: Two Children Dead, Over 1,000 Displaced

Recent flooding has severely impacted Kafanchan and neighboring villages in Jema’a Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State. The disaster has claimed the lives of two children and displaced more than a thousand residents.

Mrs. Christy Usman, Vice Chairman of Jema’a LGA, shared these details during a review by the Kaduna State Impact Assessment Committee on Flood, which was touring the affected areas in Southern Kaduna.

She explained that the floods affected parts of Kafanchan Municipal City, as well as Jagindi, Atuku, Aso, and Bade wards. The disaster washed away farmlands and destroyed crops worth millions of naira, causing significant economic hardship for the local community.

“The flood has deeply affected the people of Jema’a Local Government,” Mrs. Usman stated. “We are, however, encouraged by Governor Senator Uba Sani’s response, as he has dispatched a committee led by Chief of Staff Malam Sani Liman Kila to assess the damage.”

She expressed hope that the Governor’s intervention would lead to necessary relief and compensation for the flood victims, including food, building materials, and financial assistance.

“The flood has also resulted in the loss of two children from a canal in Kafanchan,” she added. “We are hopeful that the government will soon provide the needed relief.”
