The operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Nasarawa State have vowed to flush out the kidnappers, bandits, and other criminal elements in the Deere community area of Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Umar Shehu-Nadada, the Commissioner of Police for Nasarawa State Command, reiterated the commitment of the command while he received the delegation of the Deere Youth Organisation on Tuesday in Lafia, the state capital.

The police boss stated that the police and other security operatives are seriously working toward tackling the security challenges and ensuring that the entire state is secured.

According to him, the state government had pledged to further help the police and other sister agencies with more logistics to enable them to bring an end to the menace across the 13 local government areas of the state.

He, however, affirmed that security is not just the responsibility of the government and security agencies alone, but a collective responsibility, appealing to all well-meaning citizens of the state to partner with the police in that regard.

His words, “Members of the public must support us and assist us with useful information about criminals and their hideouts to enable us to tackle them and ensure that all communities are safe.

“We are ready at any time to respond when the public gives us information about criminals because that is our mandate.

“When you see something, say something, to enable us to do something in order to secure the state.”

On the issues raised by the organisation, the CP promised them that immediate actions would be taken to increase the presence of their personnel in the area.

Regarding the complaint by the organisation that some suspects apprehended by the vigilante were released a few days after arrest, the CP urged them to provide the police with their names.

He then stated that the police would investigate to unravel the circumstances surrounding their release and take further action.

Speaking on the matter, Sani Yakubu, Chairman of the Dedere Youth Organisation, expressed deep concern over the incessant kidnapping and armed robbery in the area.

He explained that many people from the area have started relocating to Lafia and other safer locations for fear of being kidnapped and attacked.

“Four suspects who were arrested by the vigilante were released a few days later, and this is not the first time the same suspects have been arrested in the area,” he said.

Yakubu, Chairman of the Dedere Youth Organisation, appealed for the police post in the area to be made a divisional headquarters.
