The Nasarawa State Government has expressed its determination to collaborate with the Federal Government to end the persistent conflicts among mining companies in the Nasarawa Local Government Area.

State Governor Abdullahi Sule made this statement during a meeting with the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, at the Government House in Lafia, the state capital.

Governor Sule highlighted the significant untapped mineral deposits in the Kokona and Keana LGAs of the state and urged the federal government to explore these resources.

He also commended the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development for selecting the state to host the sixth National Council on Mining and Mineral Resources meeting.

Sule praised the ministry for its efforts to resolve the ongoing disagreements between two mining firms in the Nasarawa Local Government Area and the state government over mining portions and royalty issues.

Earlier, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, represented by Obadiah Nkom, Director General of the Nigerian Mining Cadastre Office, stressed the importance of resolving all existing conflicts among mining firms in the state before the November National Council on Mining and Mineral Resources meeting.

Alake emphasized that a peaceful and stable environment is crucial for attracting and sustaining investment in the solid minerals sector. He expressed confidence in Nasarawa State’s ability to host a successful and impactful event due to its strategic importance in Nigeria’s mining sector.

He called for peaceful coexistence among mining firms in the Nasarawa Local Government Area and explained that Nasarawa State was chosen due to the state government’s commitment and contributions to mining activities in recent years.

Alake also noted that the November meeting would be divided into two sessions—Technical and Executive—to facilitate productive discussions aimed at advancing the mining and mineral resources sectors.

He stated, “The council for mining and mineral resources development is an initiative of the Federal Executive Council to serve as a premier consultative platform for all stakeholders in the mining industry to engage with the ministry.

“The council is the highest decision-making body on policy matters related to mining and mineral resources development. I would therefore like to thank the Nasarawa State Government for approving the meeting to be held in the state.”

In response, Yakubu Kwanta, the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, welcomed the Minister and his team and assured the state government’s continued support for federal initiatives aimed at improving the mining and mineral resources sectors.
