Gurguzu village in Kakura, under Rigasa District of Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has existed for over 100 years without a hospital or clinic.
According to residents, villagers are suffering as they transport their sick loved ones or women to hospitals for treatment.
Many lives, particularly those of pregnant women, have been lost due to the lack of medical facilities, highlighting the urgent need for the villagers to voice their grievances.
The community is calling on State Governor Senator Uba Sani to provide them with both a hospital and a school to ease their suffering.
A housewife, who identified herself as Hajara, stated that many women have lost their lives on the way to the hospital during labour.
She said, “We don’t have a hospital in this village, not even a chemist, for years. When a pregnant woman is in labour, she will be transported by motorcycle despite the potholes on the road.
” Most times, the road is flooded during the rainy season because a river passes through it, and we don’t have a bridge. People usually die trying to cross over the road.
” This is why we are calling on the state government to help us construct a hospital and a school in this community, as well as fix the road.” She pleaded
Hajara also noted that the only school in the village has been destroyed, leaving children without education.
Isa Madami, one of the village elders, said the village was established 100 years ago but has seen many residents leave due to a lack of social amenities.
“Our people are leaving because we don’t have medical facilities or a school for our children. Additionally, insecurity is another factor driving people away,” he said.
He also appealed to the authorities to renovate the only primary school in the village and construct a road linking them to the outside town.
Village Head Musa Yusuf of Kakura mentioned that pregnant women are suffering greatly due to the poor road conditions before reaching a hospital. He urged Governor Uba Sani to assist by renovating the school and constructing a health facility for the community.
Governor Uba Sani has consistently stated that his administration prioritizes rural development. Thus, it is crucial for the government to visit communities like Gurguzu to improve the lives of their residents.
