A man has been killed by his own XL bully dog at his residence in Lancashire, according to police reports.
David Daintree, 53, was attacked by his pet in Ashley Court, Accrington, and was discovered deceased at approximately 21:30 BST on Tuesday.
Lancashire Police stated that officers had “no alternative” but to shoot the dog to “prevent it from causing further injury.” Superintendent Marie Jackson noted that Mr.
Daintree’s family is receiving support from specialist officers following this “tragic incident.” An investigation is underway, and detectives are asking anyone with information to come forward.
The ambulance service initially alerted the police after receiving reports of the man being attacked. The dog was found to be “continuing to pose a significant threat of serious harm,” prompting the police action.
Superintendent Jackson expressed condolences to the victim’s loved ones and urged anyone with information or concerns to speak with the additional officers deployed in the area for inquiries.
