Kwarau village in Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State, was struck by tragedy early Saturday morning when four residents were killed due to electrocution. The incident occurred around 6:40 a.m. while many villagers were still asleep.
According to locals, a cable from a high-tension power line fell onto a transformer, causing a massive electrical surge. This surge led to widespread electrocution affecting several homes and animals in the village.
The deceased have been identified as Malam Saminu, Sani, Labi, and a teenage girl. Several others are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Councilor Mohammed Rabi’u Kwarau confirmed the deaths and urged immediate action to address the community’s ongoing electrical issues. He highlighted that this is not the first incident of its kind in the area.
Village head Umar Rufai called for compensation for the victims’ families and emphasized that the tragedy was caused by external factors beyond the villagers’ control. He also expressed relief that the high voltage did not lead to a fire outbreak in the community.
