Construction worker killed in suspected bear attack in Japan

Yasuhiro Kobayashi, a 58-year-old construction worker, was killed in a suspected bear attack in Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

His body was discovered with significant wounds on his head and back in a forest on a Friday afternoon.

This incident is part of a recent increase in bear attacks in Japan, with several reported incidents in Nagano this month alone.

Mr. Kobayashi was found by a colleague who became concerned when he did not return to work after visiting a construction site.

Authorities in Nagano have issued warnings advising residents to avoid mountain areas during dawn and dusk, times when bears are most active.

Visitors to mountainous areas are encouraged to travel in groups and carry noisy items like bells or horns to deter bear encounters.

Bear sightings and attacks typically occur in April and again in September and October when bears are foraging for food.
Unpredictable movements of bears are attributed to reduced acorn yields, their primary food source.
