Kaduna State University (KASU) has collaborated with NADAMA film production to raise awareness about cervical cancer prevention to rural Hausa communities through film.
The partnership agreement was signed at KASU’s Faculty of Arts conference room in Kaduna state.
NADAMA, a Hausa drama book authored by Hajiya Fatima Sanda, serves as the foundation for the film project, enlightening readers about the risks of cervical cancer and prevention methods.
KASU’s Vice Chancellor, Abdullahi Musa, emphasized the university’s commitment to amplifying the book’s message through film, ensuring it reaches a broader audience.
Represented by Professor Ibrahim Malunfashi, the VC highlighted the collaborative effort as a means of community engagement and education.
“The ambitious project aims to raise approximately N38 million for the production of a globally recognized film within the next six to nine months. The film will be accessible through various multimedia platforms worldwide” he said.
Hajiya Fatima Sanda, the author of NADAMA, noted that the book’s initial target audience was Hausa women.
However, the partnership with KASU aims to translate the book’s message into film format to reach a wider audience, particularly rural women with limited literacy.
She underscored the lack of awareness among Nigerian women, especially in the northern regions, regarding cervical cancer and its preventable nature.
She explained that the film’s central message revolves around encouraging young girls and women to undergo testing and vaccination for cervical cancer.
She said the collaboration with KASU signifies the institution’s recognition of the importance of educating both students and women about cervical cancer and its associated risks.
