Bandits struck Kuriga Town in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, abducting pupils from LEA Primary School Kuriga (1) as well as students from the Junior and Secondary schools on Thursday morning.
Reports from ruralpostng indicate that one student was shot during the invasion, although it remains unclear if the student survived.
While the exact number of abducted students remains unknown, villagers estimate that they numbered in the dozens, including the Principal of the Junior Secondary school.
The incident occurred around 8:20, shortly after the school Assembly.
Several years ago, due to security concerns, the Junior and Secondary schools relocated to a building within Kuriga town, abandoning their former location outside the town.
Shitu Gabas, a resident who witnessed the incident, recounted that many students fled their classes upon spotting the bandits on the school premises.
Another resident, who chose to remain anonymous, mentioned that one student was shot during the invasion.
As of now, there has been no official response from the state government. Efforts to reach the Overseeing Commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, for comment have been unsuccessful.
Similarly, the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, has not responded to inquiries via phone or text message.
