Officials of the Sokoto state government in collaboration with security operatives intercepted five trucks loaded with adulterated cooking oil.
A statement signed by the Commissioner of Health, Asabe Balarabe said the trucks were intercepted while on their way to the state’s capital.
The statement added that, another 1200 jerricans of adulterated cooking oil were recovered from the Sokoto Central market.
“This followed an intelligent report on health problems experienced by some residents after using the cooking oil.
“As soon as we received the report, our team of experts swung into action.
“This is necessary in order to safeguard the health and lives of our people in line with the 9-point agned
“They have succeeded in recovering 1200 Jerry cans of adulterated cooking oil. And five trucks loaded with the suspected were also intercepted,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the trucks were currently under the custody of security agencies who have since commenced investigation to unravel those behind the supply of the adulterated oil.
It however, advised residents to remain calm as the situation was under control.
It also advised them to report any trader found to be selling adulterated commodity to the nearest security agency..
