The activities of a non-governmental organization, Journalists Initiative on Immunization Against Polio (JAP), have led to the successful immunization of more than one thousand children during the third round of the 2023 Polio Immunization Exercise in Kaduna State.
Mallam Lawal Dogara, the State coordinator of the organization, made this known in a statement provided to Newsmen in Kaduna.
He mentioned that JAP has been conducting Road Shows, Drama Performances, sensitization programs, and Town Hall meetings with community leaders to promote Polio vaccines since 2007.
The statement notes that during each round of the Polio exercise in the State, JAP follows up with its programs in various communities across Local Government Areas to reach children who missed out on the House-to-House vaccination.
He explained that during the September-October Polio vaccination, the organization visited four Local Government Areas: Ikara, Igabi, Zaria, and Chikun, all within the State, where over 1,000 children were vaccinated in the process.
The statement commended the WHO and the Kaduna state government, which is working through the State Primary Healthcare Agency, for the success of all vaccination programs in the State.
It advises parents not to relent in their efforts to ensure a polio-free Nigeria by bringing out their children aged 0 to 5 years to receive the vaccination during every round of the exercise.
