The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has commissioned the headquarters of the 8th Division of the Nigerian Army to  in Sokoto.

It would be recalled that the division was relocated from Monguno in Borno state to Sokoto by the former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, due to the rising security challenges in Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states.

Speaking, Lagbaja promised to provide all the necessary platforms to end insecurity in the region.

“I must tell you that the Nigerian Army is determined to stamp out insecurity in this general area.

“I will provide all the necessary platforms to the 8th Division to perform that task.

“I, as the Chief of Army Staff, reaffirm my confidence in the General Officer Commanding 8th Division and Commander of Operation Hadarin Daji to do what is necessary for Sokoto state and the Northwest, in order to bring about the much-desired stability to aid economic activities in this region,” he said.

However, he sought the support of the people and government of the state to rid the state of banditry.

“So I seek the cooperation of the government and the people of the state to assist our units and formations in providing information, intelligence, and the necessary support to these motivated troops who are determined to act in line with their constitutional responsibilities,” he said.
