Hon. Godfrey Gaiya, the newly-appointed Special Adviser on Political Matters to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas said Former President Muhammadu Buhari has failed Nigeria.
Gaiya, a former House of Representatives member, expressed his views on Buhari’s administration during an interview with the Sunday Sun Newspaper in Abuja.
When asked what he would say to the former president if they were to meet face to face, Gaiya replied, “I will bluntly tell him that he failed. I will tell him, ‘Buhari, you have failed.'”
Gaiya further criticized Buhari, accusing him of deceiving Nigerians with a facade of righteousness while allowing corruption to thrive. He asserted that many individuals had amassed immense wealth during Buhari’s presidency and argued that by not taking decisive action against corruption, the former president had failed the country in various aspects.
According to Gaiya, if Buhari had effectively addressed corruption in institutions such as the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Central Bank, Inland Revenue, and Customs, Nigeria could have generated significant revenue instead of resorting to borrowing.
“He never plugged the loopholes in Customs because his friend Hameed Ali was there. He never blocked the loopholes in the Central Bank because he was using Emefiele as his stooge. He never put an end to looting at the NNPC because the managing director was his Northeast brother,” Gaiya claimed.
Gaiya concluded by asserting that Buhari had removed competent individuals who would have spoken the truth and surrounded himself with unqualified cronies with an agenda to exploit and harm Nigeria.
